Okay, guys so in order for you to be a great digital marketer or just a great marketer in general. You first have to fully understand exactly what the purpose of marketing. What phone is that most of these marketers know don’t fully understand what the purpose of marketing. I even tried doing a Google search prior to trying to find a proper definition for you guys as it relates to the purpose of marketing.
It was virtually impossible to find a proper definition. So what I did was I created a definition for you guys in the simplest way that I possibly could to explain to you exactly what the purpose of marketing is once you fully understand what the purpose of marketing. Is that will help you to become a better digital marketer. We know exactly what you’re trying to accomplish. It’s impossible to accomplish anything in life if you don’t know exactly what your target.
That’s why I created this definition for it’s a simple definition but it will help you out a lot. This is what I came up with as really so the purpose of marketing is to guide your target audience through the buying process all right so the buying process. These are three stages that people generally go through before the option by a product. These are awareness consideration and decisions. That is just some marketing basics for you guys to fully understand.
What it is you’re trying to accomplish as a marketer whether you’re doing it online or offline. All right so the number one way to create awareness to influence consideration and decision in the digital marketing space is through content creation. Storytelling so it’s very important that you fully understand how to do content properly and how to tell a story. So in order for you to mail content creation and storytelling, these are the skills.
That you’ll require to actually do it properly all right so these are the six skills that you’re going to need to develop to be a great digital marketer.
Skill number one is technical skills. You need to have some technical skills. We need to develop some technical skills and guys if you don’t have these skills naturally. If you have learned these skills over the past couple years it’s not impossible for you to take some time and fully learn these skills on udemy and Skill Share they have a lot of courses for very affordable prices.
I’m going to leave a link here to udemy and Skill Share where you can find courses on some of these skills.
Graphic design so you need to fully understand graphic design to be good at digital marketing. If it’s a case where you won’t be creating the graphic. You need to understand what good graphic design is alright. That’s why you need to know even the basics of graphic design. You need to understand photography so that’s the second thing you need to fully understand what good photographs are what makes a great photo.
It’s a visual world online right now as it is with Instagram and Facebook and snap-chat. You need to understand how to have good photographs to actually create and tell your story online.
Audio is also very important alright so just make sure that you fully understand the basics of proper audio. If you’re planning to do a podcast for your brand or for your company. It’s good to know what good audio sounds like how to get good audio.
Videography. Once again you need to understand the basics of proper videography. That will help you to become a great much better digital marketer. Those are the four technical skills that you’ll need to develop to become a better digital marketer.
So skill number two is your Communication skills alright so communication is broken down into three different areas.
- You need to understand how to do proper copywriting. You need to understand how to write. So if you don’t know to write properly you can always outsource. You can outsource any of these skills but it’s very important. That you have good communication skills as it releases writing that will help you to become a better much better digital marketer. Copy-writing is very important.
- How to speak. So it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be the best speaker in the world, but some technicalities and some little simple tricks and tips. That you can learn to help you to be a much better speaker. Then you know is also very much important.
- Nonverbal skills. If you’re presenting yourself online through video it’s very important. As well that I develop good nonverbal communication skills. A lot of people actually neglect nonverbal communication skills such as body language. But it’s very important to actually help you to create awareness, And to get people to actually buy the products you’re pushing.
Search Engine Optimization
SEO search engine optimization alright so it’s very important as well to learn SEO. Learn metadata learn how to actually optimize your blog post. How to optimize your videos on Facebook on how to optimize your videos on YouTube. This will help you a lot to get a lot of organic traffic to your website, to your company’s website to your brand online.
It’s very important to learn basic SEO skills and SEO is not very difficult. Once again you can take some very simple affordable courses on udemy and Skill Share to learn search engine.
Paid advertising. I want to talk to you about is doing paid advertising. So most people are versed in paid advertising as it relates to Facebook ads and Instagram ads. It’s pretty easy to actually create and set up our Facebook ads and Instagram ads. There are certain technicalities that are a little bit more advanced challenges. But you can actually definitely learn these skills but besides Facebook and Instagram. You need to learn Google advertising with PPC you need to learn YouTube advertising.
You can learn email marketing which is very important. I have that on the paid advertising as well as learn being advertising. There are so many different platforms online. That you need to fully understand and learn how to use it for advertising to help you. Actually, leverage your digital marketing knowledge and to grow your business or your company’s brand.
Analytical skills. So we’re in the age of analytics right now it’s very important for you. Actually, learn how to actually analyze data and implement the necessary changes and requirements based. What you’re getting from the data. If you don’t know to analyze simple data online such as your traffic bits or your search data. Once again you can find and take a course in this to help you to understand exactly.
How it is that you should do analysis based on the information that you’re getting in the digital space from the different services.
That you use online and finally this is possibly one of the most important skills in marketing in general. It definitely is important in digital marketing. As well and that is your psychological skills. It’s very important to understand how people think and to know how to use psychology. Actually, get people to do the things that you want them to do.
It’s very important to learn that skill as well and for psychological skills have always been recommending in this one book. It’s called influence by Robert Dini. Make sure that you guys read that book if you don’t want to read it.
You can buy the audiobook and listen to it in your car on your phone wherever you are. There are no excuses as it relates to consuming the content of that book. There you have it guys my six skills that are so important for you to actually become a better digital marketer. So if you want to become a great digital marketer.
These are some of the basic skills that you must master of course. There are other skills that are also very important. These are the basic and the main skills but you need to master to become a great digital marketer.
Digital Marketing tools
What tools should you be using on your website? Or to just market your business, Now, before I give you a list of the tools that I use and what you need for digital marketing, Are you doing anything with the tools? Are you taking action? Are you improving your website? Use Google Analytics. That’s a tool that everyone has and I’ll even include it in my list.
The first tool that you guys should use is Google Analytics. It tracks your visitor count if you have a lot of traffic. They’ll sample the data unless you pay like a hundred or a hundred and fifty grand or whatever their price is per year. Google Analytics will show you how people are engaging throughout your site and what traffic sources are causing most conversions. Don’t optimize for traffic. Optimize for traffic that causes conversions.
Google Analytics will show you that as long as you set up a goal and conversion tracking. It’s that simple. If you’re using Google Analytics and you don’t have a goal and conversion tracking set up, there’s no point in even using it. Just stop. You’re wasting time, then. So at least set that up. – Interesting. Yeah. –
Ubersuggest. You’re gonna want to get rankings. You’re gonna want more search traffic. It’s the most consistent traffic that you’ll get. Yes. The social media traffic is easier and quicker to get. But Google’s algorithm updates aren’t as crazy as Facebook’s. It won’t be where one day you’re getting 300,000 visitors from Facebook organic reach and the next day you’re getting 10,000 visitors.
Google’s organic traffic is very, very consistent. So use Ubersuggest. Type in the keywords that you’re getting traffic from already, that are driving conversions and it’ll show you more than. You could be going after from a paid perspective and organic perspective, that’ll help boost your overall conversions and sales.
Google Search Console. We love doing this internally, where we take Google search console, we log in; we look at all the posts, how many impressions. They get, how many clicks they get and the click-through rate.
We look at all the keywords. That was getting impressions from that post. Then we integrate those keywords into that blog post or that landing page and we rewrite that content.
We don’t just add in the keywords. We rewrite it to encompass all the relevant keywords and make it two, three, four or five times more in-depth. If you look at one of the posts on the Technicwala blog about Instagram followers and just scoring your total Instagram follower account, but by making it longer.
We now have a piece of content that went up from around 12,000 views a month to currently a bit over 30,0000 views a month. And we don’t just rewrite any post. We use the Google Search Console data to look at the click-through rate. – Right. – In addition to that, we double check and make sure those URLs are driving conversions based on Google Analytics data.
When you combine them both at least you’re focusing on increasing the traffic from blog posts that drive sales. That’s a really important part that most people forget. – And I feel like looking at the way marketers do business, like a lot of us just focus on new content.
Crazyegg shows me how people are engaging with my website. How far they’re scrolling. Where they’re clicking. It allows me to take that data and, within Crazyegg, you don’t have to be a developer, you don’t have to be a designer. You can adjust your page and run A/B tests to maximize your sales. Because it’s not just about getting traffic, it’s about converting those visitors into conversions.
Another tool that I love using is called Subscribers. It’s through push notifications. People will come through to your website, but they don’t come back. So what this does is, assuming you’re using https, if you’re not, you should. It also works if you don’t have https, that’s the SSL certificate. Either way, it works, but make sure you switch over to https.
What it does is it puts a little browser notification when people come to your site and gets them to subscribe without being obtrusive, it does it all within the browser. They subscribe and then anytime you have a new blog post or content piece, you push it out. They come back to your site and then you start converting more and you’re generating more leads, more sales.
It’s a great way to get people to come back. Build that trust, that rapport with you and that’s how you get more customers. – Just on that note, do you think any tools like that are gonna replace email marketing? – I don’t see a replacement. Email marketing isn’t getting the engagement as much.
It’s not getting the opens, but what you’re going to see. If you’re still going to have to do email marketing, combined with push and a few other things. – Got it.
HubSpot’s a great tool to look at your overall marketing, your lead count. It integrates marketing with sales and that’s why I want to end with HubSpot. I love it. Which is very entrepreneur friendly, and best of all is they keep adding more and more stuff for free, so why not? They’re a huge billion dollar company that are trying to crush their competitors.
They’re just releasing a lot of stuff for free. Hey, that’s for your benefit. – There it is, there are the foundational tools, As I mentioned earlier on, and even Adam knows this, you’ve gotta take action. – Make it happen. Yeah. – Use Google Search Console, your traffic increase, you’ve updated your content.
If you use Search Console and you looked at updating and you’ve never updated your content, what would happen with your traffic? nothing. – Exactly. Take action. – Definitely. – All this data and these tools, with no action, is useless. You’re better off saving the money and not even paying or using any of them. So that’s it.
Wikipedia. So Wikipedia ranks for pretty much everything. Have you ever been on Wikipedia and noticed that they have 20 pages on the same topic? – Never. – It’s only one page per topic. – Right. Of course. – And they just make the articles longer and longer. That’s why they do well. There’s no cannibalization. So don’t just keep writing more and more content. Focus on updating more than continue on writing new pieces of content.
If you’re going to write new pieces of content, it should be on ones that are on new topics that you haven’t already covered. You could do content clusters where you have the overarching, you taught the different subtopics of the building. That’s true, the point made, and we do this as well, where we write multiple articles on SEO, let’s say there’s SEO, link building, on page SEO, audit, competitive analysis.
We’ll do content clusters, where you’ll have the main article and let’s say “What is SEO“? Or “SEO Overview” and then we link to other articles that break down specific things.
That’s called content clustering and that works really well. But we wouldn’t have two or three articles that talk about “The Beginner’s Guide to SEO“, then the next one is “Is SEO Important”? The next one, “The Newbies Guide to SEO”. Do you see how that’s too much overlap? You want to make sure you break it down into different segments.
